FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence police are conducting a homicide investigation after two people died following a shooting on Monday.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken said two people died after the shooting at McLeod Medical Plaza across the street from McLeod Hospital in Florence.

The two people were identified by von Lutcken as 48-year-old Ronald Patrick Edwards, of Lake View, and 48-year-old Nina Tamara Edwards, also of Lake View.

On Wednesday, Florence police confirmed that Ronald Edwards approached Nina Edwards while she was sitting in her car, shot her and turned the gun on himself.

In a press release, von Lutcken said the incident was “a domestic related shooting incident” and said the victims were an “estranged couple.” Both people were taken to McLeod ER, where they died from their injuries.

Officers responded to a shooting incident in the parking lot of 800 East Palmetto Street on Monday morning, Lt. Mike Brandt, with the Florence Police Department, said in a press release. Officers located two people with injuries in a parking lot near Palmetto Street and Gaillard Street. Both were taken to a hospital, where they died.

This incident appears to be “an isolated domestic related incident,” the press release said.

The incident is being investigated by the FPD and the Florence County Coroner’s Office.
