Florence police department host shooting match to raise funds

The Florence police department hosted their third annual shooting match to support the emergency response team and training facility.

“Those funds get used for a lot of our summer time training, and active shooter response training that we host,” said officer John Davis.

The department is making sure they’re ahead of the game in case of an emergency.

“Every summer Florence school district allows us to use their schools and participate in active shooter response training for all the Pee Dee jurisdiction, which is very beneficial for us especially with the increase threat out there today,” said Davis.

Deputies from the FCSO and Richland County were also in attendance to show their support for the agency.

“It definitely gives us some sense of pride that people are willing to come out here and donate their time and money to support for a good cause,” said Davis.

The department is working to make this event bigger each year, not just for them but for the community.

“It’s fun for people. Yeah this raises money for us but it’s fun for people to come out here and it doesn’t matter if you’re avid shooter or not, everybody can enjoy what we have going on,” said Davis.
