The Darlington County coroner confirms one person was killed in a motorcycle accident Wednesday.

A Florence man died following a motorcycle collision in Darlington County, according to Coroner Todd Hardee. Hardee says the accident happened in Hartsville Wednesday afternoon when the motorcyclist collided with a car.

Randy Hyler, 67, died as a result of the crash, confirms Hardee. The Hartsville Police Department is investigating.

A report from the Hartsville Police Department says, officers responded to the 1400 block of S. Fifth Street for a motorcycle accident around 5:15 p.m. Upon arriving, officers found a single motorcycle accident and a male laying in the roadway.

According to the report, officers ran the motorcycle’s plate and information about the motorcycle rider was gathered from a friend, identified in the report as Dudley Bradson Munn. Munn identified the motorcycle rider as Randell Hyler Sr., of Florence. Munn said he and Hyler had just left a sports bar and were heading home when a white four-door car pulled out in front of Hyler, causing him to panic and hit his front breaks. Hyler was knocked off the motorcycle and his head made contact with the asphalt, Munn also said.

Munn also told police the white four-door car kept driving, the report also says. He further said the vehicle turned into the right lane, but seemed to have pulled out in front of them, and that they were only going about 40 to 45 mph.

Hyler was not wearing a helmet, according to the report.
