FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – New jobs and road improvements are on the horizon for Florence County.

Capital Sales Tax II road projects, like Alligator Road, have already been selected and many have already been completed. Thursday, more of those projects moved forward.

Florence County Council agreed to work with the Palmetto Corp. of Conway to work on roads throughout the entire county. Each district will get hundreds of thousands of dollars for road repairs.

Also on the agenda, council agreed to select TranSystems Corporation of Greenville to design the new parking garage. Council says the new parking garage and new traffic route will “free up” space when the county leases the office spaces in the county complex. It will also make more parking for the new Judicial Center.

Councilman James Schofield says the parking deck will have about 350-400 spots. Schofield says the design will outline the deck beside the current complex building.

“That is what is anticipated now. When you start digging in the soil, as long as we don’t find something bad down there, that is where it’s going,” said Schofield.

Council also approved the final reading of a tax incentive for the Charles Ingram Lumber Company. Council documents say the company is expanding and set to invest $33 million in the county. They expect the project to create 22 jobs.

Schofield says the Republican Tax Reform passed last year is allowing companies to invest more.

“Companies are now letting loose some money and investing in capital and projects. It’s great that is what’s helping develop the tax base,” said Schofield.

Council postponed the final reading of another investment solar project valued at $22 million until next month.
