The organization, One Child at a time, is working with the Florence County sheriff’s office to raise awareness on human trafficking.
“If you have access to social media, you’re at risk to have a predator contact you,“ said founder, Glenda Skipper.
Skipper founded the organization when she began traveling with different missionary organizations.
“I was able to see firsthand what bondage really looked like, and what they were doing to prevent it, and rescue as well as restoration,“ said Skipper.
Now Skipper decided to bring her skills to the Pee Dee by working one on one with deputies and educating hundreds of children in Florence County.
“We have the knowledge of human trafficking and the sheriff’s office has the resources to rescue. So partnering together gives us a greater outcome on rescuing against human trafficking,“ said Skipper.
The sheriff’s office believes her knowledge about human trafficking will be valuable to the department.
“The interstate that runs between I-20 and I-95 are really part of the transportation network that some traffickers use. Glenda actually has been provided information from children who are really in the grooming process by these predators,“ said Major Michael Nunn with the FCSO.
The founder of the organization reveals several signs people should be on the lookout for.
“Change in their behavior, talking with a boyfriend or girlfriend that’s much older or if they’re unable to make eye contact when carrying conversations,“ said Skipper.
