The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a gun was found on the grounds of an elementary school.
According to Major Michael Nunn, with the FCSO, a handgun was found near the student drop-off car line on the grounds of Dewey L. Carter Elementary School. School officials notified the FCSO. The sheriff’s office is now investigating.
“This morning, it was reported to school administration that a possible gun was lying beside the car line on the side of the school. Our Assistant Principal, Mr. Gainey, investigated and found a gun and secured it. It appears the gun fell out of someone’s car.,” the school said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “No students or staff members were in any danger and the situation was handled immediately. Law enforcement and district officials were notified and the gun is now in the possession of law enforcement. Thank you to our diligent parents for being so observant.”
