Veteran’s Day is November 12 and on Friday, Academy Sports teamed up with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office to give back to local veterans.
To show appreciation for their service, six veterans from the Florence area each received a $150 gift card to the sporting goods retailer.
The group got the opportunity to shop for anything they needed, including sports equipment, bikes, and clothes.
One veteran told News13 he’s honored to be recognized by the community for his service.
“I picked out a bunch of stuff that I lost during the flood three years ago,” said Hardy Brown, a Vietnam veteran. “Lost a lot of my fishing gear, so I thought this was a good time to replace it.”
The sheriff’s office and Academy Sports say they plan to continue this tradition.
