FLORENCE, SC (WBTW)- Honda of South Carolina in Timmonsville along with G3P Powersports and American Honda gave the Florence County Sheriff’s Office a search and rescue car on Monday.

The car is called the Pioneer 1000. It is estimated to be worth $21,000.

Major Mike Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said the all-terrain car will be used to locate wandering people with dementia, lost children, missing people, and track fugitives.

The car will help deputies get to places that were not accessible to them before. Major Nunn said, “when we’re doing a manhunt, when we’re looking for an alzheimer’s or dementia patient, looking for a missing child, sometimes those searches lead us into some very rough terrain.”

Nunn said it is a car made in Florence County and by the people it is intended to serve.
