FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – One person is dead after a single-vehicle car crash in Florence County.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver of a 2001 GMC Yukon was traveling southbound on North Old Georgetown Road, near Henneghan Road around 8 p.m. Thursday night.
Troopers say the driver ran off the left-hand side of the road, overcorrected, ran off the right-hand side of the road, hit a utility pole, and was thrown from the car.
Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identifies the victim as Mikaele Krishan Matthews, 18, of Coward.
Matthews was taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead as a result of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
