The No One Unsheltered organization hosted their 2nd annual ‘Hearts for the Homeless’ event at the Levy Park community center.
On Valentine’s Day hundreds of people show their love with flowers, balloons, chocolates, but on Thursday Florence city officials went the extra mile to help the homeless community.
“It’s Valentine’s Day and they deserve the same kindness that I would want for myself,” said organizer Pat Gibson-Hye Moore.
Organizers are making sure the homeless community feels like they’re part of a family and have hope of one day getting out of the streets.
“All these people in here came from different shelters across Florence. We need to share our love with them,” said Gibson-Hye Moore.
Dozens of homeless lined up and shared a hot meal, many feeling loved and grateful for what the community has done.
“It lets me know the community is reaching out and trying to comfort us. There’s no need to lose hope,” said Jefferson Floyd.
Organizers also lit up candles for those who died in the streets while trying to survive.
“It’s hard out there. When you’re in the streets day in and day out, things happen,” said Gibson Hye-Moore.
