An elderly man who deputies say walked away from his home has been found safe.

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook around 7:20 p.m. that 89-year-old Perry Whitt has been found safe.

Deputies searched for Whitt on Thursday afternoon after he walked away from his home, according to Lt. Robert Kilgo, with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office. Whitt had last been seen around 1 p.m. wearing blue jeans and a tan button down shirt at his home on Cashua Ferry Road. Whitt suffers from memory loss and other health problems.

Deputies with the DCSO were in the area of Cashua Ferry Road and worked with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office’s tracking team and aviation unit to find him.

A missing person advisory from the DCSO said Whitt uses medication for a heart condition and his family reported he has Alzheimer’s disease.
