Dillon residents vote for new mayor after 16 years

The city of Dillon voted for a new mayor on Tuesday night after having the same one for 16 years. Todd Davis was elected into office in 2003 and decided not to run for re-election in 2019.

On Tuesday, there were three people looking to step into the position.

Some Dillon residents said the election shows the beginning of a new era.

“We definitely need progress. We need change. Overtime, things evolve, and we need things to get better, and I think a new mayor will do that for us,” said Zipprah Colvin.

People could vote from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. at the City of Dillon Fire Department, the Dillon County Fire Department and East Elementary. According to officials at the Dillon County Voters Registration Office, several people were confused on whether they could vote or not.

“It’s only for the city limits but some of the people that’s living in the other areas are calling, and we had to let them know that they are not eligible,” said Voters Registration Clerk, Ann Blunt.

News13 spoke with Todd Davis to get his thoughts on the election. He said he was thankful that the community supported him for so long. In addition, he hopes whoever gets the position continues to rebuild Main Street.
