Dillon County Coroner: body found in truck on Highway 57 is county’s first death since storm

The Dillon County Coroner says a body found in a truck on Highway 57 is the county’s first death since Hurricane Florence.

According to Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley, a body was found in a truck on Wednesday on Hwy 57, also know as Carolina Church Road, north of Little Rock.

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling on Carolina Church Road. The vehicle left the roadway during high water and was found submerged off of the side of the roadway.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was found deceased inside, Collins says.

Grimsley says he doesn’t know how long the truck or the body had been there and that he is working to identify the body and the person’s next of kin.

This death makes South Carolina’s ninth weather-related fatality due to Hurricane Florence, according to Collins.

No other information or cause of death is available. WBTW News13 will provide updates as we receive them.
