The Department of Health and Environmental Control is investigating after a reported pit bull attack in Dillon County.

An animal incident report from DHEC says a victim reported being attacked by two pit bulls while walking to their house on June 11 around 10 p.m. The victim was treated at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Adrianna Bradley, DHEC’s Public Information Officer, says “DHEC is aware of the incident. Staff have been in communication with animal control. However, the dogs have not been located.”

Bradley also says DHEC’s “role is to ensure that rabies is not a factor in an incident of this nature. Typically, the animals are placed under quarantine for 10 days. The quarantine is often at the owner’s home. In this case, since the animals have not been located, we have sent a letter to the victim advising them to discuss the situation with their healthcare provider.”

No other information regarding the victim’s identity and condition or the dogs has been released.
