The death of a 61-year-old Darlington County man has been ruled a homicide.
“This community is nothing but family, that’s all we are, family. For someone to do this to my father, it hurts so bad. I miss him,” said daughter Masha Hickman.
Travis Warren Stevenson, Hartsville, was pronounced dead on Friday morning at his home at 3940 N Center Road, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.
“It’s heartbreaking. When you’re at work, painting, or need house work done, he didn’t mind helping out,” said neighbor Albert Davis III.
Darlington County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the home at about 8 a.m. on Friday for a deceased person.
“One of his co-workers found him this morning and when he found out he called my mom,” said Hickman.
Some of Stephenson’s family members and neighbors watches as deputies searched the home for evidence, many concerned about the safety in the neighborhood.
“This is a loving family. Everybody out here is family, this doesn’t happen in our community,” said Davis.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Forensics Services is investigating.
As the family wait for answers, they are asking the public for one thing.
“If anybody knows what’s going on or what happened out here today, please let us know,” said Davis.
“I just lost my daddy, and I was justice for him. I love my daddy. I will always love him and I just pray that they find out who did this to my daddy,” said Hickman.
