The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office now has new bulletproof vests after asking for funding a year and a half ago.

Each employee now has custom fit, up-to-date vests, which is something that comforts not only the employees, but their families too.

Lt. Robbie Kilgo says “I’ve had deputies come to me, ‘Hey when are they going to be in? My mom’s really bugging me about it.’ So, it’s not just the deputy feeling safer, it’s the family members of these deputies that go to bed worried about their sons, their brothers, their wives, and their spouses.”

Each vest costs about $650 and DCSO is working to make sure each new employee receives a new vest.
