The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and the Darlington County School District have teamed up to provide meals for kids during the summer.

Sheriff’s office employees grilled hamburgers and hot dogs on Wednesday at Southside Early Childhood Center in Hartsville.

“We want do it as a part of showing the community, number one, that we care and we want to be actively engaged with our youth because we’re trying to build that bridge to let our youth know that we, as in law enforcement, we’re here for them,” says Lt. Kaynnera Capers.

The DCSO will hold another lunch on Tuesday at Brunson-Dargon Elementary in Darlington and at Spaulding Middle School in Lamar on June 27.

The Darlington County School District also offers free breakfast and lunch for students every weekday during the summer. To find out if there is a summer feeding program in your area, contact your local school district.
