A Darlington County deputy is in the hospital after a crash with an 18-wheeler truck in Darlington on Thursday morning.

Around 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, a Darlington County Sheriff’s Office deputy was traveling on Timmonsville Highway toward I-20 from Darlington, according to Lt. Robby Kilgo, with the DCSO. The deputy was attempting to turn left into a driveway near Dewitt Circle and an 18-wheeler truck, traveling in the same direction, crossed the double yellow center line and struck the side of the patrol vehicle.

The deputy was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be okay, Lt. Kilgo also said. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash was minor and no charges or injuries were in the report. EMS was also not called.

Both vehicles were moving in the same direction and a piece of the 18-wheeler truck caught the push bar on the deputy’s car, Cpl. Collins also said. The 18-wheeler truck “crossed the line” because the driver was trying to pass the deputy.
