Darlington County coroner identifies woman in deputy-involved shooting

The Darlington County Coroner has identified the woman in a deputy-involved shooting.

Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee told News13 the woman has been identified as April E. Webster. Webster was born in 1971 and was from Darlington.

Hardee did not say where Webster was shot or how she died, but did confirm she was shot.

Hardee previously confirmed to News13 on Monday morning that Webster died at a hospital.

According to Lt. Robert Kilgo, with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Edna St. late Sunday for a person trying to harm them self. When authorities got to the home, a person met deputies with a large, serrated knife. Deputies shot that person, and the female was taken to the hospital.

Sheriff Tony Chavis requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate what happened.

Kilgo also confirmed the deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending SLED’s investigation, per normal protocol.
