Multiple fire crews are on the scene of a ‘very large field fire’ Wednesday evening, according to Darlington County Emergency Management coordinator Molly Odom.

The Hartsville Fire Department is on the scene along Lakeview Boulevard, near Hartsville.

Odom says the area is being blocked off by law enforcement while they fight the fire.

Firefighters from Darlington County, Sandhills, Darlington City, and Alligator Fire Departments are assisting, as is the SC Forestry Commission.

Darlington County Fire Department Chief Ricky Flowers estimated the fire at 2-4 acres in size around 5 p.m. He also said a lot of progress had been made on the fire.

Odom says the fire is in a residential area, but there are no homes in direct danger.

The fire is under control, but firefighters will remain on scene through the night.

You may see heavy smoke in the area.

A burn ban is in place for Darlington County.

It’s unclear what led to the fire. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Eastern SC are helping crews by providing water and Gatorade, meals, and snacks to about 75-100 responders.
