MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that killed one person in Marlboro County.

According to the agency’s website, the accident happened around 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1600 block of Salem Road in the Bennettsville area.

Cpl. Sonny Collins says a Honda Accord was traveling south when it ran off the right side of the road and struck trees.

The driver of the Honda was the only person inside of the car, and Cpl. Collins says the driver was wearing a seatbelt. 

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified the person who died as 15-year-old Mackenzie Gore, of Blenheim. Gore was a rising sophomore at Marlboro County High School.
