COLUMBIA, SC (WBTW) – Coronal Energy, an independent solar power and energy storage provider, will build a new solar project in Florence County.

A press release from South Carolina Department of Commerce says the new development, the Rankin Solar Center, is projected to bring approximately $15 million of capital investment to Florence County.

“Our approach to creating a business-friendly environment for all types of companies continues to pay off, and Coronal Energy’s new investment in Florence County is a testament to that. I look forward to seeing the impact that the renewable energy industry will have in the region and across the state,” says Gov. Henry McMaster.

The Rankin Solar Center will generate 10 megawatts of clean, renewable solar power, which is enough to power approximately 2,000 homes annually, according to the release. Located off Corrie Farm Road in Florence, Coronal Energy’s new development is expected to come online in the fourth quarter of 2019.

“Clean energy is an important initiative for a healthy environment. Coronal Energy will not only bring investment to Florence County, but also help create sustainable energy for the future,” says Florence County Council Chairman Kent Caudle.
