Congressman Tom Rice and the South Carolina Ports Authority hosted Dillon Inland Port Day on Wednesday.
Dillon Inland Port Day is an event to “bring businesses and community leaders together to discuss the benefits of the Dillon Inland Port to the entire Pee Dee Region,” according to a press release from Rice’s office.
The event’s focus will be “on the transformational impact the port will have by attracting new industries and boosting existing businesses in the area and how we can maximize the positive benefits of the port for our community,” the release says.
The event was held at the Dillon Wellness Center at 1647 Commerce Drive in Dillon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. About 80 people were in attendance, including state legislators, pastors, and existing and new business owners.
“We’re trying to let people see that, all this talk for all these years about infrastructure and opportunity, it’s not just talk anymore it’s real. The Dillon Inland Port is open, 1100 jobs have already been created,” said Congressman Rice.
