Coker College soccer player’s rape accuser charged with filing false report, police say

HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – The woman who accused a Coker College soccer player of raping her faces a charge for “filing false police report of a felony,” Hartsville Police Lt. Mark Blair told News13.

Lauren Emily Pearson was booked into the Darlington County Detention Center Thursday night.

According to a police report, a woman said Cesar Lopez raped her early Sunday morning at a party in the Sullivan Hall dormitories at Coker College.

Asked whether Pearson was accused of making up the story about the rape, Blair replied in an email, “Essentially that’s it.” Pearson should have a bond hearing on Friday, Blair said.

Blair said he didn’t have any information about the status of Lopez’s charges. Lopez was charged with criminal sexual assault first degree and kidnapping.

Blair expected the city to release a statement on Friday when “all facts are available.”
