Coker College’s Board of Trustees has approved a name change for the college and the school will soon begin operations as Coker University.
“This fall, Coker’s Board of Trustees voted to approve a name change for the college,” Danielle Sewell, Director of Marketing and Communications for the school, said in an email to News13 on Tuesday. “As you can imagine, transitioning to a new institutional name does not happen overnight, and as of now, we anticipate launching the new name on July 1, 2019. At that time, we will begin operating as Coker University.”
“This shift is a reflection of the tremendous growth we’ve seen at Coker over the past few years, including the addition of graduate programs and online undergraduate degrees. At the same time, the Coker experience remains what it has always been—a close-knit academic community, dedicated to helping our students achieve their personal best.,” Sewell also said. “We believe that the name ‘Coker University’ will encompass both our modern-day accomplishments and our strong tradition of serving students and our community.”
School officials plan to make a formal announcement in January, around the time of homecoming activities.
