City of Johnsonville host 9th annual festival

The Johnsonville Heritage Festival at the river returned to Venter’s landing this weekend.

“We’ve got a committee that puts this together as well as volunteers,” said Chief of Police, Ron Douglas.

Hundreds of people filled the area in Johnsonville Friday and Saturday for the ninth annual heritage festival.

“Our local sponsors pay for everything for the kids. Our kids can come out and there’s no admissions fee for any of the events. Everything is free because of the support we get from the community,” said Douglas.

Families and children of all ages enjoyed variety of foods, craft vendors, bounce houses and other activities.

“We have several cookoffs, barbecue chicken, rice cookoff, and cake judging contest. There’s several thousand dollars in prices for people who enter the contest,” said Douglas.

Douglas said this year’s event was another successful festival and hopes to continue the tradition and bring the community together.

“We’ve been very fortunate to have really good weather and a good turnout, so we’re excited,” said Douglas.
