The City of Darlington is exploring a new way to honor fallen Florence police officer Sergeant Terrence Carraway.

They are planning to name a playground and part of Southern Pines Street after Carraway.

The playground will be at the former site of the little league fields.

The decision was made in Tuesday’s city council meeting and the mayor told us she personally knew Carraway.

“I just felt by me knowing him for 52 years, plus years, that we needed to do something in Darlington, and I knew that we were doing the recreational park, playground over there, and also he lived in that area at one time when he was small,” said Mayor Gloria Hines.

The renaming of Southern Pines Street will take a little longer, because it must be approved.

We’re told that plan is still in the works.

Terrence Carraway was killed in the October shooting of several law enforcement officers in Florence’s Vintage Place neighborhood.
