FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence County Chief Deputy Glen Kirby is set to formally announce he will be entering the race for the office of Sheriff of Florence County.

Chief Kirby confirms to News13 he will seek election to the office currently held by interim Sheriff William C. “Billy” Barnes.

He says in a press release, “I have dedicated my entire professional career to serving the people of Florence County. I am both blessed and overwhelmed by the support and encouragement to run that I have received”.

Kirby has served Florence County as a law enforcement officer for thirty-two years, six of those years as Chief Deputy of the Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Kirby is a Lake City native and lifelong resident of Florence County. During his Law Enforcement career, Kirby has served in uniform patrol, narcotics enforcement, public corruption investigation, and the FBI Task Force.

His work has been recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and he has been named Deputy of the Year by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Kirby has expressed that he believes that Florence County residents deserve to be confident in their Sheriff’s Office, and that his experience as Chief Deputy has prepared him to continue to lead the Sheriff’s Office.
