Cheraw man behind bars, charged with murder after convenience store shooting

CHERAW (WBTW) – One person was shot and killed at the Money Saver on Market Street in Cheraw Saturday evening.

According to Cheraw Police Chief Keith Thomas, officers arrived and found 32 year old Michael Powe lying on the parking lot ground with multiple gunshot wounds. EMS took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

24 year old Shavelle McDonald later turned himself into the police department.

McDonald is charged with murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office helped assist in the investigation.
