Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center hosted race to fight heart disease

Carolina Pines Regional Medical center in Hartsville hosted a 5k-10k race.

“You know you help a good cause. It always feels good when you do something,” said runner Frankie Valle.

Rain or shine, the Jump Start your Heart race didn’tstop people from participating. “You know I enjoy running anyways. So we might as well get out there and run,” said Valle.

Hundreds attended the run to raise funds to purchase wrist blood pressure devices for people with cardiovascular disease and can’t afford them

“We thought what a fun way to do it then do something with exercise. You’re never old to start walking and improving your heart as well,” said Jana Pye, spokesperson for Carolina Pines Regional medical center.

The event included bounce houses, vendors, and much more. ” Everyone knows that South Carolina has a lot of incidents of heart disease. So anyway that we can help promote ways to alleviate or to prevent heart disease we’re going to try out best,” said Pye.

Carolina Pines regional is looking for more ways to help others stay healthy.

“Our hospital this year has started a program where we’re trying to train more people with hands only CPR. It only takes a minute and you can save a life. We’ve been going to a lot of social groups and trying to spread awareness. We’re had some our nurses here helping with that,” said Pye.
