Students and teachers in Darlington County will be receiving the necessary tools this holiday season thanks to the Black Creek Arts Council.
Dozens of volunteers decked out several trees and wreaths on Sunday with unique holiday ornaments. Event coordinator Susan Askins says the organization is going the extra mile on their 2nd annual ‘Festival of Trees’ event.
“Last year we came up with the idea because we recently lost some funding for the art education program,” said Askins.
The 3-day event will take place this Friday at the arts center located at 116 W College Avenue in Hartsville.
“All of this will benefit the art and education program. That will put more artist in schools all across Darlington County,” said Askins.
Last year students received items such as, computer programs, print materials, and stools. The organization says they’re hoping to give back more items this time around.
“We raised $5,000 last year and with that money we are able to grant some request that teachers have made across the county for different things in there school and I think that’s an important thing to put into our county,” said Askins.
