PAMPLICO, SC (WBTW) – A biomaterial manufacturing company is opening a plant in Pamplico, bringing in an $8.4 million investment and 42 jobs to Florence County.

Sunstrand, LLC announced Wednesday it is locating new biomaterial manufacturing operations in Florence County. The company is projected to bring $8.4 million of capital investment, leading to the creation of 42 new jobs.

The company will work closely with farming partners to procure natural materials by producing bulk biomaterials for manufacturers, wastewater remediation companies and animal bedding distributors across North America. The company is a supplier of natural fiber reinforcements and fillers for a variety of industries and is North America’s only commercial decorticator of technical grade bast fibers.

“Sunstrand is excited about our expansion into South Carolina. This investment will see the deployment of a major processing facility that builds a new industry from the ground up. Considering our need for world-class farmers, an accessible workforce and access to manufacturers in the region, South Carolina is the perfect location,” says  Sunstrand CEO Trey Riddle, Ph.D.

The 140,000 square foot facility is located at 1728 North River Road in Pamplico and is projected to open in early 2019.

Hiring for the new positions should begin in the fourth quarter of 2018, and interested applicants should visit www.sunstrands.com for more information.
