Bikers gathered to show support for ‘Florence 7’

The community around the Pee Dee attended the ‘Florence 7’ benefit ride on Saturday.

The event started at 10 a.m at Black Jack Harley-Davidson and continued its course to Darlington Raceway.

Over 200 bikers showed their support for the 7 law enforcement officers and their families that were involved in the shooting at the Vintage Place neighborhood back on October 3.

“We are very thankful for the guys that came out to ride and show their support, and to let the families know how much their loved ones mean to us,” said one owner of Raceway Grill, Tony Baird.

The ride fee was $20 for all bikers, and it included meals, live entertainment, activities and kids also joined the fun for $5.

Donations are set-up and handled by First Reliance bank and all proceeds from Saturday’s event will be given to officers and their families.

“It’s been great to see the community come together the way it has. We’re just hoping to give and show law enforcements that people care,” said one of the organizers Ben Knotts.

The bikers continued their ride to Darlington Raceway at 2 p.m. Community members enjoyed a day long activity with food, and a silent auction.  Andrew Harding was in attendance and played the song he wrote for fallen Florence County investigator Farrah Turner.

Friends also remembering officer Sergeant Terrance Carraway.

“Like he said, he got your back. He was the type of person you can count on, and always wanted the best for people,” said friend of Sgt. Carraway,  Travis Scott.

People in attendance say they will continue to give back and honor ‘Florence 7’.
