The Bennetsville Police Department recently received a new safety light by Guardian Angel.
This tool was part of a $1,000 donation from the Malboro Electric Cooperative as well as the department’s budget.
“I always try to figure out new and innovative ways to add to their personal safety and their protection out there,” said Chief Kevin Miller.
The police department received 34 lights for each officer to wear on their vest during their shift.
“If there’s an emergency and you don’t know where an officer is located, you will be able to recognize that officer easily by that yellow and blue light,” said Chief Miller.
The device is a new way that drivers can see law enforcements during traffic stops, accidents, or an event in town.
“We always hear about officers being struck on a highway or roadways by not only motorist but sometimes impaired motorist,” said Chief Miller.
The Bennettsville Police Department hopes other stations will start using the lights.
