BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A Bennettsville man was killed Wednesday morning in a crash involving a moped and tractor-trailer, according to the Marlboro County coroner’s office.
Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown confirms the deadly crash happened on SC 9 and Cottingham Blvd. at 4 a.m. Wednesday. The moped driver, identified as 35-year-old Matthew Moore, of Bennettsville, died at the scene.
Bennettsville Police Chief Kevin Miller says the 18-wheeler was loaded with lumber and the collision happened at the traffic light. While an exact cause of the crash has not been released, Chief Miller says cameras show the moped failed to yield at the light.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
