Coker College hosts its annual Kalmia Gardens Oyster roast Saturday.
The event is to help raise funds for the Kalmia Gardens which is a public garden open all year. There is no admission fee to the gardens so events like this and others are important to keeping the gardens open.
The Kalmia Gardens are 25 acres, the same size as New York’s Central Park. They also serve as the gateway to the Segars-McKinnon Heritage Preserve, which is just as large.
Over 200 people are expected to attend this year’s roast.
Lauri McLelan, Vice Chairperson of the Kalmia Gardens Board, said “I think everybody loves Oysters, you only get them for a few months a year, and we just always have a lot of fun and people love to support the Gardens so it always turns out to be a good event especially when the weather holds up for us.”
