South Carolina Senator Hugh Leatherman said he helped killed an amendment Tuesday that would have forced three school districts in Florence County to consolidate.
In 2018, a South Carolina Senate committee discussed a bill that required school districts to have 2,500 students or more to receive state funding. That would have likely forced Florence 2, 4 and 5 to consolidate.
Florence 2 Superintendent Neal Vincent told News13 previously that the negatives would outweigh the positives.
Florence 3 has more than 2,500 students. We talked with school officials there, previously, about what consolidations would mean to schools in Florence County.
