The 7th annual ‘Pacing for Pieces’ half marathon and 5k run/walk was held bright and early Saturday morning.
“There’s so many people out there that don’t know about autism, so this is an awareness event. It’s an awareness walk and run,” said family coordinator for All 4 Autism foundation, Amy Pennington.
Over 400 hundred runners hit the streets of Downtown Florence to celebrate all ages with autism disorder in the Pee Dee and their families.
“I was a two hour pacer just to get people. They like to break two hours and half marathons, so I was able to help them get there,” said runner, Mike Mcgehean
Pennington, a mother of a child with autism, started this race to gain awareness in Florence and raise money for resources.
“Autism is to be celebrated. So we’re here to celebrate these families. The more funds that we raise, the more that we can offer in Florence,” said Pennington.
The money raised will help the All 4 Autism resource center in the Pee Dee. ” Just to see the turnout makes us feel loved. It make us want to get out there and do it again. So we love that people are showing up and believing us with what we’re doing,” said Pennington.
