A non-profit organization remembers victim of physical abuse

CARE House of the Pee Dee hosted heir 8th annual ‘CAPES’ for fun at Briggs elementary school.

“I can’t think of a better reason to come out and run today so that we can protect our little ones,” said runner Casey Coker.

The non-profit organization remembers the life of Tylashia Grant who lost her life to physical abuse and neglect.

“We continue this event to help other children in the community,” said administrative supervisor, Nicole Morris.

Over 200 runners joined the 5k-10k fun and many wore their favorite superhero costumers and ran for an important cause to the community.

“It’s awesome to see everybody in support and recognizing that child abuse is real in our community and trying to prevent it from happening to other children,” said Morris.

The organization is to promote help, heal families, and hope children who are going through any type of physical abuse can receive support.

“I’m a Florence district one teacher and the CARE house works with many of our children, and I’ve personally have children who have benefited from their counseling and their support,” said Coker.

All the proceeds from Saturday’s race will go directly to the organization so they can continue to fight for the children.
