2 sent to hospital after car hits bus with elementary students onboard in Lamar

DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) –  School district officials say ten elementary school students were on a bus this morning when it was hit by a car in the Lamar community. 

Communications Specialist Christopher McKagen confirms two students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and the other eight students were taken to school. 

District officials noted that the crash happened on the 2100 block of South Center Road. Cpl Sonny Collins with the SC Highway Patrol says the crash happened at 6:20 a.m. when a car crossed the center line and hit the side of the bus traveling in the opposite direction.

Cpl. Collins says the driver who hit the school bus has been charged with driving left of center. 

All parents were notified of the crash.
