LATTA AREA, SC (WBTW) – One person is dead after a crash on SC-38 in Dillon County.
According to Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley, the person who died is identified as Curtis Watkins, 81, of Florida.
The crash happened around 3:05 p.m. on Thursday on SC-38 near I-95 in the Latta area, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Two vehicles were involved in the accident: a 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer and a 2005 Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer was wearing a seat belt and sustained no injuries, Southern said. The driver of the Ford Explorer was also wearing a seat belt, but sustained fatal injuries on the scene.
Southern also said the Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on SC-38 and the Ford Explorer was exiting I-95 northbound on to SC-38 when the two vehicles collided.
The crash remains under investigation by the SCHP.
