Pee Dee man sentenced to 40 years on armed robbery, conspiracy and weapons charges

A jury found a man charged with killing a 75-year-old dillon county woman 6 years ago guilty.

According Shipp Daniel with the Dillon County Solicitor’s office, Damian Inman was found guilty on all counts of murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, conspiracy and first-degree burglary.

The court sentenced Inman to  30 years on the armed robbery, a consecutive 5 years on the conspiracy and a consecutive 5 years on the weapons charge.

Sentencing on the remaining charges will be done at a separate hearing in a few weeks, according to Daniel.

The state Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Damian Inman back in June 2014.

Inman was serving life in prison for the 2009 murder, kidnapping and armed robbery of 75-year-old Mary Alice Stutts.

But the justices threw out the conviction because of an error in jury selection.

When the defense tried to strike a juror, the prosecution objected saying the juror was being eliminated only because his race which is not allowed.

The judge upheld the objection and the defense could not strike the juror. In its appeal, the defense argued the man was struck because of his occupation, not race.

The high court agreed and ordered a new trial
