Honors went to Pee Dee area students who earned high scores on their Preliminary S.A.T.

The Junior Scholars program recognizes eighth graders for their performance on the P.S.A.T., normally given to high school sophomores. These students are now in the running for national merit scholarships.

The Pee Dee Education Center recognized the students Monday evening at a reception at Francis Marion University.

Two students won top regional honors: Jeffery Jiang from Sneed Middle School performed best on the math section of the test and Annie Watson from Williams Middle School took top scores in the reading and writing sections and got the highest overall score.

Both schools are in Florence District One.

Officials say 145 students from 22 Pee Dee area schools earned Junior Scholar status this year.
