Just like the weather the Pee Dee housing market is heating up. Home sales are up 35% in the region from 2014, according to the Pee Dee Realtor Association.
President Sandy Gaskins has been in the business for 13 years and found out that many people are purchasing newly built homes.
“That’s what people want. A lot of people want new construction,” says Gaskins.
Twenty-three year old Peyton Davis and her family will soon be moving from their apartment in Florence to their new home in Darlington. She is excited because they’ll soon have a new addition to the family which means more space will be needed.
“I have a three-year-old and a kid on the way, so we needed the room,” said Davis.
They acted quickly to get the home they wanted.
“They actually started building this house April 16th and we’re thirty days away from moving in. We went in and picked out everything in the house and we absolutely love it,” says Davis.
Houses in the $100,00-$150,000 range are making the largest gain in sales, according to statistics.
Harry Cook, an electrician of 50 years states from last year until now, he has seen a drastic change in the housing market.
“Twenty-five percent at least in the last 4 to 5 months. It’s picking up good now,” said Cook.
Gaskins says in August, buyers will see some changes. “It will take longer to close. It will cost more. The attorney will have to charge more because they may have to hire additional help.”
While the market is doing well, buyers need to act a little quicker these days, she added. “The first thing you need to do is to go to a bank or mortgage company and get pre-approved because that saves so much time once you find the house that you want.”
