The Pawmetto Pack Flyball Club will be hosting the Tenth Annual Pawmetto Pack Cool Runnings Tournament on February 14-15, 2015. The 33 teams of canine competitors will be racing 8:30am – 4pm on Saturday and 8am – 2pm on Sunday at the Eastern Carolina Agricultural Fairgrounds in Florence.
Flyball is the sport of relay racing for dogs. Each dog on a flyball team has to jump 4 hurdles, trigger a specially designed box causing a ball to be ejected, catch the ball, and return over all four hurdles to the handler, setting the next dog running. If the dog faults by missing a jump, not triggering the box, or failing to carry the ball all the way past the finish line, the dog will have to rerun at the end of the line, incurring a time penalty for the team.
Four dogs race on a team; teams race against each other for their standings in the tournament and they race against the clock for points toward titles.
“We’re excited about the level of racing teams that will be in Florence competing,” notes Pawmetto Pack Club captain Linda Damiano, “and it’s always a fun time for humans and canines alike.
The public is welcome to view the tournament with no admission fee, however non-competing dogs are not permitted on the premises during the competition. More information may be found at the website www.flyballdogs.com/pawmettopack .
