Passenger struck by lightning while getting off SC plane

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Officials say lightning struck a female passenger who was getting off a plane at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Multiple media outlets report an airport spokeswoman says the woman, whose identity hasn’t been given, was traveling on an American Airlines flight Saturday.

Airport officials say the plane was traveling from Hartford, Connecticut; to Charlotte, North Carolina; when it was diverted to Columbia due to bad weather.

Airport spokesman Kaela Harmon says as the woman left the plane and walked across the tarmac, lightning struck her.

Officials say she was transported to a hospital in the Columbia area and was listed in stable condition.
