LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – A drunk driver crashed a car, killing his passenger near Lake City on Friday night, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said Quintin McFadden was southwest of Lake City in Williamsburg County driving north on Moore Road when he ran off the road in a curve and hit a culvert, causing the car to flip several times. The highway patrol listed the time of the crash at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.
McFadden, of Lake City, was in a 2012 4-door Dodge car, and he was not wearing a seatbelt, Southern said McFadden was hurt, and Williamsburg County EMS took him to McLeod Regional Medical Center, he added.
Deputy Coroner Vernell Fulton says Michael Williams, 28, of Lake City died on scene. That passenger was not wearing a seatbelt either, and the passenger was thrown from the car. The car then landed on the passenger, he explained.
Southern said McFadden was driving drunk, and charges are pending against McFadden. The highway patrol investigation remained open Saturday morning.
