FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Parents and students of Florence School District One are continuing to voice their opposition of the new graduation tickets policy that limits the number of tickets issued to each student to 10.
Dozens of them gathered outside of the Florence Center on Sunday evening. They vowed to get more signatures on a petition that calls on the school board to wait until next year to implement the policy change. Many of them said they are frustrated that they were not notified of the new policy sooner.
Rhonda Edwards, whose daughter is graduating from Wilson High School, said she has a party of 25 planning to attend the ceremony. Many of her family members are traveling from different states and they’ve been preparing to be at graduation since last year.
“Flights have been made, people have taken off from work, invitations have been bought. So as far as this year, I feel we should do away with the ticketing system and maybe go back to the drawing board for next year. That way, everyone can be involved in the process.“ Edwards suggested.
Parents and students say they plan to attend this Thursday’s FSD1 board meeting to discuss this matter with board members.
