MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Jim Dumm with Tara Hall Home for Boys joined News13 Now at 9 a.m. on Monday to talk about the upcoming Paddle Fest. The event on June 25th is a great opportunity for people to get out on the water of the Black Mingo Creek while also raising money to support the home.
Tara Hall is located in northwestern Georgetown County. The educational campus is for neglected, troubled or abused boys – ages 6 years and up – growing up in the state of South Carolina without a supportive or safe home environment. These boys have no other options to help them develop into contributing citizens. Originally, Tara Hall was a place for neglected boys due to poverty. Today, boys arrive from all walks of life for complex and even more devastating reasons.
The Paddle Fest is Tara Hall’s largest single fundraiser.
The event is a family day at the campus combined with an opportunity to paddle four miles down the Black Mingo Creek. It includes a meal and music, along with other fun activities. There is even a water barrell race for kids. Registration to paddle down the creek is between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. An official launch is at 9 a.m. Prices vary depending on age and whether you participated in the paddling or just the family day on the campus.
