CONWAY – Connor Owings delivered a walk off single in the bottom of the 11th as Coastal Carolina beat South Carolina 9-8 Tuesday.

It’s the Chanticleers first win over South Carolina since 1995. Coastal Carolina (18-6) now has three wins vs. ranked teams in 2015.

Owings, who also homered in the first inning, finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. David Parrett also drove in two. Casey Schroeder and Zach Remillard also had two hits for the Chanticleers.

Max Schrock went 3-for-5 to lead the Gamecocks (18-7).

Coastal Carolina built a 6-2 lead on the strength of a four-run fifth inning. South Carolina issued four bases-loaded walks in the inning.

The Gamecocks bounced back with six straight runs, including four in the sixth. Kyle Martin’s RBI double gave put South Carolina up 7-6. Elliott Caldwell followed with a sac fly to extend the lead to 8-6.

Coastal Carolina scored two in the eighth to tie the game 8-8. Casey Schroeder scored the tying run on a wild pitch from Cody Mincey.

The Chanticleers have won nine straight games. Tuesday’s game marked South Carolina’s first trip to Conway since 1993. Their last trip to the Grand Strand was in 2010, when they won a Super Regional series 2-0 over Coastal Carolina in the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ ball park.
